The last generation of the Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is one of the
most aggressive vehicles ever produced. With its sleek body lines
and intimidating ram air style, its hard to go unnoticed on the
street. GM cancelled the production of Camaros and Trans Ams in
2002, and with each passing year making them harder to come by.
The ride was purchased used in 2006 and
was completely stock with 44k miles. Will's main goal with the
vehicle was to build a head turning car, that was reasonably fast,
with great gas mileage. Working a third shift full-time job and
commuting to college classes full-time was strenuous, but it was
worth it to put together his dream car. It only took an 11 month
build time to finish the exterior of his Firebird. The bird sits on
19" C6 wheels in the rear and 18" wheels on the front, giving it
that all black look. The hood reflects the WS6 ram air and the
Firehawk heat extractors characteristics thanks to the work of US
Exotics and their custom WS9 hood. With a few small loans to finish
off the look with a Wings West lip kit and flush mount spoiler, it
was ready for the car show season of 2007.
The vehicle has seen little track time, putting up a best 15.4 1/4
time. With a little more practice Will believes he can break into
the 14s, but will wait till its race ready before it lines up in the
future.
Future plans for the Firebird have been put on hold for his Nissan
240sx project. Major performance upgrades are all that remains, with
plans to either go with a custom turbo application or a V8 motor
swap. For now the car will only be used as a weekend driver and
attend local car shows. Goals for 2008 include taking home top
honors for the Firebird Trans Am category at the Carlisle GM
Nationals.
